Request time off

You can book time off two ways — from the Cabana dashboard, or with /pto request in Slack. Both land in the same place.

From the web app

  1. Go to Requests → New request.
  2. Pick a leave type. Your available balance for that type shows as you choose.
  3. Set your start and end date. Weekends, public holidays for your location, and non-working days are excluded automatically.
  4. Optionally mark a half day — see Half days and partial days.
  5. Add a note if it's useful for your manager, then submit.

From Slack

Type /pto request in any channel. A form opens right in Slack with the same fields. You'll only see leave types you're actually eligible for.

What happens next

  • The request goes to pending and the days are reserved against your balance immediately — so you can't accidentally double-book them.
  • Your manager is notified and can approve or deny it.
  • Once approved, the reserved days convert to used days, and you appear on the team calendar.
  • If it's denied or you cancel it, the reserved days are released back to your balance.

If your request is blocked

A request can be rejected before it ever reaches your manager if it overlaps a blocked date range, or if you don't have enough balance to cover it. Cabana tells you which at the point of submitting.
