1. Install the app
Go to Settings → Integrations and connect Slack. You'll be sent to Slack to authorize Cabana — this has to be done by someone who can install apps in your workspace.
What Cabana asks for
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
commands | Running /pto and /cabana |
chat:write | Posting announcements and replying to commands |
users:read | Reading the member list to match accounts |
users:read.email | Matching Slack accounts to Cabana employees by email |
channels:read | Listing channels so you can pick where announcements go |
2. Sync your people
Back in Settings → Integrations, run the workspace sync. Cabana matches Slack users to Cabana employees by email address. Anyone whose emails don't match won't be linked, and their /pto commands will return an “account isn't linked” message until they are.
3. Choose your announcements
First run /invite @Cabana in the public channel you want to use — the picker only lists channels Cabana has joined. Then pick it and turn on either or both:
- Weekly digest — who's out this week, posted every Monday.
- Daily announcement — the day's list of who's off. Skipped entirely on days when nobody is out, so it won't clutter a quiet channel.
