How it works
When a request needs a decision, Cabana checks whether the approver is on approved leave that day. If they are, the request goes to their manager. If that person is out too, it keeps going up the reporting line, and at the top it goes to an admin.
Requests that were already waiting when the approver's leave starts move as well. Cabana checks every hour.
The new approver's notification says why it's landed with them — for example, "Sent to you because Jane Doe is out through Nov 3."
What counts as out
- Approved, full-day leave that covers today. Pending requests don't count.
- Half days and hourly leave don't count — the approver is still around for part of the day.
Choosing who covers for you
Managers can send their approvals to someone other than their own manager. When you request time off, pick a Coverage contact who's a manager or admin, then tick Send my approvals to them while I'm out.
Good to know
- If you're out but want to deal with a request anyway, you still can — from your original notification or the request page.
- If the same person ends up on two steps of one request, they only approve it once.
- A request never goes to the person who asked for the time off.
- If nobody else is available, the request stays with the usual approver.
